How Telehealth Psychiatry Works
How telehealth psychiatry works
Telehealth psychiatry is a live video visit with a psychiatric provider. You request a consultation online, complete an evaluation from home, and continue with follow-up visits to monitor your progress, all through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
At Sufficient Grace Mental Healthcare, every service is delivered 100% by telehealth to patients in Texas and Virginia by Josephine Vuchansu, DNP, PMHNP-BC. Here is what to expect from start to finish.
Step by step: from first request to ongoing care
- Request a consultation. Use the Contact page to send an inquiry. No referral is needed. Our team responds within 24 to 48 business hours to confirm your appointment.
- Complete your psychiatric evaluation. Your first visit usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes and covers your history, current symptoms, past treatments and goals. Learn more about the psychiatric evaluation.
- Review your plan. Dr. Vuchansu shares her findings, provides a diagnosis where applicable and discusses personalized options, such as medication management, therapy referrals or ongoing outpatient care. See how treatment planning works.
- Follow up regularly. Early in treatment, follow-ups are typically every 2 to 4 weeks, then may move to monthly or quarterly as you stabilize. Read about follow-up care.
How to prepare for your visit
- Choose a quiet, private place where you feel comfortable talking.
- Test your device, camera, microphone and internet connection beforehand.
- Write down your current medications, past diagnoses and treatments, and any allergies or side effects you have noticed.
- List your main concerns and the questions you want answered.
Who can be seen
We serve children, adolescents, adults and older adults who are located in Texas or Virginia at the time of the visit. Patients who are minors need parent or guardian consent before their first appointment. Not sure what kind of provider you need? Read what a PMHNP is and how it differs from a psychiatrist.
When telehealth is not the right fit
Telehealth is an outpatient service and is not designed for emergencies. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911. Our crisis resources page lists additional support options.
